Welcome!

Hopewell Valley's Robotics team, Team 293 (affectionately nicknamed S.P.I.K.E.) was founded 17 years ago and is proud to have been a long-time supporter of the FIRST vision:

"To create a world where science and technology are celebrated... where young people dream of becoming science and technology heroes"
    -Dean Kamen, FIRST founder

News:

  • Spike competed at the Bridgewater Raritan event held at Bridgewater Raritan High School. Spike XIX remained a reliable shooting robot throughout the competition, yet experienced difficulties with the drive train that resulted in the robot being unable to cross defenses. Despite this challenge, Spike ranked 21st in the competition and made it to the quarterfinals in an alliance with teams 75 (The RoboRaiders) and 219 (Team Impact). The alliance won 1 of 3 quarterfinals matches and experienced technical difficulties in their last match which led to their elimination from the competition.
  • Unfortunately, Spike has been eliminated from the First Stronghold competition. Spike placed 77th in the MAR district, thus not qualifying for the MAR District Championships.
  • Spike recently attended its first competition of the season: the Springside Chestnut Hill District Event at Springside Chestnut-Hill Academy, hosted by 1218 Vulcan Robotics, from March 19 - 20.  At first the team was experiencing technical difficulties with the robot, yet the team overcame those difficulties and was selected for an alliance with teams 203 (One TUFF Team) and 272 (The Cyber Crusaders). 293, 203, and 272 were eventually eliminated in match 4 of the quarterfinals when they lost to teams 1218 (Vulcan Robotics), 5404 (The Gearaffes), and 484 (Roboforce). When it was eliminated, Spike was ranked 21st out of 32 teams and had a record of 6 wins, 7 losses, and 1 tie. Spike's next competition is the Bridgewater-Raritan Event at Bridgewater-Raritan High School hosted by T.E.S.T. Team 303 from April 2 - 3.
  • Spike is proud to announce two new sponsorship opportunities! Those who give $5,000+ become Inspiration Sponsors, and are entitled to even more unique benefits. We've also created the Friends Of SPIKE program, which gives benefits to businesses that make "in kind" donations. See our Sponsorship Opportunities page for full details on both opportunities.

A Little About Robotics

The FIRST Robotics competition requires teams from all over the world to build a robot in order to participate in a challenge. The rules change immensely from year to year and are presented each January by a committee of engineers and other professionals. The catch? We only have six weeks to do it.

Team 293, or SPIKE, participates each year in the FIRST  Robotics New Jersey Regional and in a regional in Maryland or Pennsylvania and has performed quite well, even achieving first place! On successful years SPIKE is able to join the National competition as well.

Despite being highly competitive and work-oriented, members become friends over the long hours and have tons of fun!
